In 1828, Kasper Hauser wandered into Nuremberg, Germany. He could only speak a few strange sentences and carried a message addressed to the Captain of the Calvary. His behavior was so strange, that he was taken to be studied by doctors and scientists. He learned to talk and told of spending almost his entire childhood in a small cage with no human contact. Some people began to speculate that he was actually the son of the Duke of Baden. Kasper had extraordinarily developed senses. He could read in the dark and became drunk from the smell of wine. After learning the ways of "civilized people," however, these abilities began to fade. Kasper was passed around to various gardians for the five years he lived in "society," and was myseriously murdered at the age of 21. It was thought by some that Kasper had actually commited suicide; a few people believed that he had simply been putting on an act and saw no other way out of the complex hoax. Others assumed that Kasper was, indeed, royalty and had been murdered by an assassin. For complete details on the story of Kasper Hauser's bizarre life, read Brian A. Haughton's article.

Wow, this reminds me of a documentry I saw on a girl from California who was isolated in her room till she was 13. Can't remember the whole story but she ended up in the hands of the state and put in an orphanage. Will do some reasearch on this.

Yeah...I think I know who you are talking about. I read an article on her a couple years ago... Here it is. Or at least it is similar to the article I read before. Her name is Genie. She was chained to a toilet because her father hated children. I find it really creepy that anyone could do that to a child, and amazing that the child could survive...but mostly I find it creepy.

Yup...That would be the one. Good find Colleen. The show was called "Wild Child". I don't think it mentioned Kasper Hauser which is odd because there just aren't that many cases of this happening. Tis creepy that someone could do it, but her parents were human and humans do cruel things. So it is understandable, though every wrong. Why do you think it is that you could do the same to a dog but the dog can be rehabilitated where as a human apprently cannot? I guess this is one of these things you hope scientist don't have subjects to study.
